Founded in 2002 in the Outer Richmond District of San Francisco, JAPONICA began as an upscale floral and gift boutique. In early 2009, JAPONICA expanded and added an espresso bar in response to the neighborhood's request for good coffee and a welcoming place to congregate. It is still locally owned and operated by Principal Designer, Valerie Nara-a second generation floral designer from Hawaii whose background in fashion, technical design, production and project management are matched with her creative talents.

Initially, JAPONICA brought a much needed gift boutique to the northwest corner of San Francisco, often times being the first to introduce a line to the area. Now it is established as a reputable full-service florist, a uniquely stocked boutique as well as the most inviting coffee shop in the area. JAPONICA prides itself on the coffee it serves and recently introduced its own private label coffee.

Variety and quality are essential to JAPONICA. The wide array of gifts and flowers are always changing. JAPONICA features works of art created by local designers, painters and jewelers. While the front sidewalk always has an eye-catching display of fresh flowers, once inside, clients marvel at the treasures artistically displayed. Among the french soaps and scented candles, you will find silver jewelry from Paris, hand-painted plates from Turkey, linen from Sweden, porcelain vases from Thailand, locally designed hand knotted jewelry, cashmere and silk scarves from Nepal among others. Not to be missed are the exotic air plants.

The ambiance created by the unusual combination of global artifacts is very original. The blend of east meets west goes beyond being entrepreneurial. At JAPONICA, all your senses are treated kindly and the hospitality is evident from the moment you walk in the door.

"E komo mai! Nou ka hale."

"Come inside, the house is yours."
